German

The German major or minor focuses on language instruction, literary analysis, and exploration of the social, cultural, and political developments of the German speaking people and their nations. Students develop the analytical, critical thinking, and communication skills needed to succeed in a global society. There are many internships and study abroad opportunities like the faculty-led “VT in Germany” summer program.

The VT German program is a close-knit community and professors know each student. The student-run German Culture Club, Teach for Jamie (an after-school program teaching German in local elementary schools), monthly coffee hours (Kaffeeklatsch), and other activities provide students with numerous opportunities to speak German.
